Macbeth who’s just learnt about his wife’s untimely death considers life to be “like a walking shadow.”
It’s in his use of metaphor and the interplay between light and dark that Shakespeare discusses the nature of the relationship between humans and forces beyond our control, namely death.
In Shakespeare’s metaphor “Life’s but a walking shadow, a poor player that struts and frets his hour upon the stage and then is heard no more,” he is explaining how life is short and then it ends.
